Dr. Laura Malowane is a testifying economic expert who specializes in analyzing damages and liability issues in defamation, employment, and complex commercial litigation matters. Her testimony has been admitted in Circuit, District, and Superior Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Senate, and the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund Hearings.

Dr. Malowane has vast experience in addressing economic issues in reputational harm and defamation cases. In these matters, she assesses potential damages and addresses the causation link between the defamatory statements and the claimed damages. Dr. Malowane’s vast experience also includes measuring lost earnings arising from wrongful termination, discrimination, and wrongful injury or death. She has served as a testifying expert on the loss of profit and firm value arising from commercial litigation issues such as breach of contract, theft of trade secrets, and tortious interference. Dr. Malowane is a notable expert in attorney fee disputes and has significant knowledge of existing attorney billing rate data and the appropriate methodologies for adapting the data to specific geographic regions and legal specialties. She has also been retained to analyze the commonality of damage assessment in class action certification matters as well as to examine the economics of punitive damages and how these relate to specific case facts.

Dr. Malowane has been retained by both plaintiffs and defendants. Her clients include national news media companies, Fortune Top 10 companies, universities, non-profit organizations, NGOs, and individuals. Dr. Malowane has worked on behalf of numerous Federal Government agencies and affiliated organizations, including the Department of Justice, the FBI, the United States Postal Service, the State Department, the US Capitol Police, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Dr. Malowane received her Ph.D. from Princeton University and has served as a lecturer in economics and statistics classes on behalf of Princeton University and the University of Toronto.
