Malowane, Laura, PhD

Dr. Laura Malowane is a seasoned economist with over two decades of experience in analyzing damages and liability issues in defamation, employment, and complex commercial litigation matters. She frequently testifies at trials, arbitration hearings, and before Federal Government panels. Dr. Malowane earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University and also holds JD, MBA, and BA degrees from York University in Toronto. She has been a lecturer in undergraduate and graduate level economics courses at Princeton University and the University of Toronto.

A significant component of Dr. Malowane’s practice is addressing economic issues in allegations of reputational harm. She has worked on behalf of many national media companies, prominent newspapers, and online news platforms accused of defamation in their reporting.

Dr. Malowane’s vast experience includes measuring lost profits and firm value in breach of contract and theft of trade secret matters, lost earnings in wrongful termination and death cases, and punitive damages in allegations of fraud and reckless negligence. She is recognized as a national expert in attorney fee disputes and has significant knowledge of billing rate data and the appropriate methodologies for adapting the data to specific geographic regions and legal specialties.

Dr. Malowane has been retained by both plaintiffs and defendants. Her clients include Fortune Top 10 companies, universities, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Dr. Malowane has worked on behalf of numerous Federal Government agencies and affiliated organizations, including the Department of Justice, the FBI, the United States Postal Service, the State Department, the US Capitol Police, and the Department of Homeland Security.
